CONGRATULATIONS!
Your time has come...it's FINALLY your senior year! Trust your senior portraits to a photographer who understands individuality and uniqueness! I understand that you do NOT want your senior portraits to look like everyone else's. I strive to make every session different, and as unique as you are!
So, to get your creative juices flowing, here are some ideas:
- Sports | Whatever sport you participate in - school sponsored or otherwise - think about bringing items from your sport to your session. It could be football or cheerleading, snowboarding or rodeo. Anything that you love can be represented in your portraits!
- The Arts | Maybe you are not sports incined. Maybe you have a knack for the finer arts. If you play an instrument; are involved in theatre; sing in a choir; or you draw, paint or are an inspiring photographer; consider bringing something to represent your passion to your session!
- Other Ideas | So, you don't play a sport, act in the school play, or play an instrument. That is perfectly fine by me! Like to shop? Bring shopping bags from your favorite stores; Gamer?? Bring that controller! Harry Potter fan? (I am a Potterhead myself!) Bring your favorite books! Maybe you have a closet full of amazing shoes. Maybe you love building model planes...Come on, everybody's got their something! Be creative! If all else fails, bring your best friend!
- BRING IT ALL! Extra clothing, your favorite jacket, letterman's jacket, sports equipment, class ring, cheerleading uniform/poms/megaphone, favorite hat, sunglasses, sport uniform, Homecoming or Prom dress (don't forget that mum!); bring those things that matter most to YOU! Any prop you have in your collection that defines your personality. Bring along your car or your motorcycle! You can also arrange portraits with your pet (prior notification is required!). The sky is the limit here! Girls, bring your make-up and lipgloss for touch-ups (even if you don't wear it normally, you want some type of sheen to your lips). Take time to think about all the things you want to have with you. I constantly hear "ohhh! I should have brought this or that with me!" So bring it!
Now, start thinking. Think about what you want your senior experience to be. Then, give me a call! I'd love to hear your ideas or help you come up with something new and different!
SENIOR RELATED FAQ
Why should I get Senior pictures done? My school requires me to get them done through their photographer.
Well, this is a personal choice. You can have dull, drab "everyone has the same picture" pictures, OR...you can have pictures done that scream "THIS IS WHO I AM!". Your Senior year is an important part of your life, and is your launching pad for the rest of your life. DO IT RIGHT!!! Yes...you will still have to get your head shots done for the yearbook, but that doesn't mean that those are the pictures you HAVE to hand out to family, friends, or in your announcements! Do something that is just for you! You worked hard...you deserve the best!
When is the BEST time to get my Senior Portraits taken?
The best time to start thinking about your Senior portraits is right after your Junior year. Why?
1. Time goes by quicker than you think! Once your Senior school year starts, you will be busy with school activities, school-work, college plans and maybe even a part-time job.
2. Early Summer and Fall are the best seasons for the nicest outdoor portraits. If you're thinking of waiting until Spring, you may be sadly disappointed when it's the end of March and the grass is still brown, the trees are still bare, and it's still cold outside! Springtime is also unpredictable and it may be hard to reschedule if it's raining the day of your appointment.
3. If we have time on our side, I can be more creative with your portraits! When you call me in a rush, then I won't have as much time to be creative with your pictures, and your overall experience won't be the same! You will still get beautiful portraits, but think how much nicer they will be if we can really take our time!
How long will a typical session take?
Your session will not be hurried, nor are you limited in your clothing changes. We may travel to several local locations, and you may use whatever and however many props you wish. Your photo shoot will last from one to three hours, so be prepared to spend some quality time with me! Please come happy, fresh and arrive on time!
Location?
We'll go wherever you want to go (within 20 miles of Flower Mound). I have several places that I can suggest, but if you have an idea in mind, I'd LOVE to hear it! We can go to an urban setting, railroad tracks, park, your high school, your backyard, a creek...the options are endless! Â If there is a special place that you want to go, please let me know!
Should I bring a parent?
Parents are always welcome (I will put them to work!), but not required!
If you break out in acne before the session...
Don't sweat it! I'll retouch any image you order, at no extra charge. I can make your skin look as flawless as you wish! I can even take off a few pounds (Don't get crazy here! If you are a larger-size girl/guy, I don't want to change who you are!) BUT...I can usually take you down a dress size or two, IF that is what you want! The only time there may be an additional fee is if you want work beyond basic retouching (i.e. erasing braces, etc.). If you have something in mind, it is best to talk to me about it before the session, so that I can let you know if additional charges may apply.
Common problems that I encounter!
The most common problem I see is sunburn and tan lines from tanning salons! It is best to keep out of the sun a good week before your session (SUNSCREEN people!). I see a lot of uneven sunburn from guys who wear ball caps, and peeling skin on noses from recent burns, and lines from those who were sunburned with sunglasses. Although, I can fix SOME of that in post-production, you will be much better off - and your portraits will be nicer, if this is not an issue! Acne is easy to fix...uneven skin and "racoon eye" is not!
The other problem I see from time to time, is wrinkled clothing. PLEASE, don't just shove your changes of clothes into a duffle bag! If you shove them in a bag, they will come out all wrinkled & they will photograph that way!
Lastly, is the all-too-popular *glitter* lotions & make-up! I know that it's fun, and fresh & wonderful - but it just doesn't photograph well. What you will end up with is tiny white specks all over - and nobody needs that! Glitter is for going out, not portraits.
